I've been rebuilding a 64 bug, it did not have a title when I bought it and my intention was to just keep it as a rat rod. Now it has become a full blown restoration. Any idea how I can get a title in the state of Washington before I go much further? I have a bill of sale that is it.

You take it to the state patrol inspection station, they run the VIN, take your info and give you a bonded registration (lets you license it). In 3 years if no one claims it, you can apply for a title. Only major problem with this route, the car must be complete (does not have to be nice or run and drive, just all there) when you take it out there. Call the inspection station for more info, or even a DMV office. Used to be able to use International Title Service to get a title faster, but they have become expensive, unreliable and you now have to have a VIN inspection to use them too.

If you know the orig. owner you can have him sign a afadavit and have it notarized. and give it to the license agency.

Here is the PDF for washington state.http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/420040.pdf Wink

That will work as long as the DMV still has it in the system. If they don't you have to do the State Patrol/3 year thing still.
