Here's a front end shot....I got this emblem on ebay, was spray painted Gold.... I stripped it and my smile got bigger and bigger as the color emerged!!!! Velvet green!!! Nose was smashed in a little, but thanks to Bigfoot Ryan and Sharp eye Kaleb....dent is almost gone!!

I'm beat....got a few more things to do before my WSP inspection... damn titles!!!

 Time for an annual update! Engine is together, but I need to mock it into place to measure for oil lines to be made. Transmission should be buttoned up this weekend. Bus still looks the same....just has more dust on it!
I'll get some current pics...

Updating with some recent pics....work hasn't stopped, just got delayed. What I thought was a good 1600....turned out to have a burned #3 piston. So I did a full rebuild...kinda slow going, this is my first VW build. A hell of a lot different from a Chevy!!

You can't just build it up without a little clean up....one thing lead to another....then I got this.
Then, I couldn't just put on all that dirty tin...nasty fuel pump. It only cost $35 to full-flow the block....so that meant a whole lot of other stuff to get. Almost done here...
Then while waiting for parts for the engine I pulled the transmission to seal it up, and install new mounts. Turned out, the axle tube hold down plate had 3 missing nuts. The passenger side had about 2 inches of crud. So I tore into the reduction box, pulled the tube, pulled off the ring and pinion cover, and cleaned it all up. I still need to clean up the bellhousing to clearance for the 12v a little more, and finish sealing it up. Hard part is done....
Here she sits, waiting for all the new pieces to be reinstalled. I still need to run the rear brake hard lines. Pull the fuel tank/ and seal it up. There's alot to be said for a vehicle that sits 30+ years in a farmers field!
This is the day I got it home....think it's come a long way since then!!!
And here it is all together last summer before I took it in for the WA Vehicle inspection (Just a dry run for the parts I collected)

Thanks everybody!! Hopefully I'll get it cruising soon. Seems like EVERYTHING needs to be replaced, so it's been slow going so far.
Duke, those panel clips are at Eastwood, but I got mine from Harbor Fright... They are basically the same. As long as you have access to the panel from behind, you can use them...just a piece of 1/4" or so barstock clamps the panels together. I didn't want to use clecos, or flange the panel...so I butt-welded it...took FOREVER!

I had a very successful weekend! Fired up and broke in the new engine...runs pretty good! That was my first engine rebuild, and I've got 3 more lined up to do! The first one took me awhile, checking and rechecking...but I want to do some more engines, to get better at it. Compared to my Chevy, this thing was CHEAP to do! Geez, my Chevy heads cost more than the entire engine machine work plus all the parts to do it!
I just need to get the shift rod apart on the bus so I can finish rebuilding that...then re-install everything. This warmer weather has inspired to get it on the road!!

| Nice! This weather has been great. I also pulled my shift rod this week. Found that the retaining screw that connects the front and rear shift rod had been sheared off! Had to cut it out, re-weld it up,'and drill and tap it. It's always something. |

Glad to hear you got it running,
I had to go trailer my 71 back from Erics (again), this weekend
I drove it out to the valley last week, got out there and it started making funny noises.
So I limped it over to Erics, but didn't dare try to drive it home.
Sounds internal, so its back to sqare one for me. |
