Hi all,

After storing a 1971 VW Super Beetle for my daughter for 4 years, I figured I needed
to stretch its legs and take it out on a cruise.

The wife and I just registered it with antique plates, and it's running like a top.
My last Beetle was a light blue 1978, with UK side drive, as I was in the UK at the time.

We hope there is a good turnout, as we are both starting to really get into this
little bug, and hope we can pick your collective brains about it...

Absolutely we'll see you there. I have no excuse not to be there this time, except that pesky broken windshield Wink

I had a 63 RHD while I was in England as well, and yes, I'm still kicking myself for not bringing it back as you probably are.

Well, I didn't want to bore you with the whole story, but since you asked! Very Happy

I bought it when I first got stationed there, USAF, as I figured it would last my whole
tour of 3 years. Unfortunately one night on the way home to Ipswich, the tiny
little oil light came on. It was 10 o'clock at night, and they roll up the streets at 9
in England. I knew of one place that was open late, and was pretty much on the way.

It started clicking a mile or so out, got the oil in, and let it idle.

Only got another mile or so when >BAM< seized it. Sad

I knew a British guy just off base who lined me up with a 1302S. Nice motor, but
I only got a dozen or so mile on it, as he left a rag under the seat, which let
water in, but wouldn't let it out. It was 2 AM the second time with the now ex-wife,
and it started chugging as I approached a roundabout. Downshifted into 3rd,
and as I let the clutch out >BOOM< I had a 6 foot long tail of flame attached
to the engine compartment.

The fire-blokes finally got there, put it out, and a white lightning bolt arced across
the engine, >fwoosh< it re-ignited. Twice. Until I told them where the battery
was and they cut the cable.

That was the end of that li'l blue Beetle...

Ah, cool, a man gets a non-cracked windshield due to my humble little thread?

I can dig it!

As to the "Cripple Creek," that is a Rog. Good ol' RAF Bendovers, 80 - 83.

When were you there, Jengel? Back in the Phantom days?

No, I was serious, I am glad something good came of it, and see no thread jacking
at all. It is not like this particular forum is over run with threads or anything.

If you want to see a place where the spam just spews, wander by another forum,
that I admin, called The Pilot's Pub.

It's all good, dude!

Troy, it's all good. It's worth me being able to give you crap for a while, I'll get some mileage out of it Wink

Rich, if you're going to be meeting us tomorrow, let's chat about the windscreen.

As far as the twin bitches go, I"m not that old, I was there after you actually, 89-92, first with 527th Agressors, then 81st with a stint with the SOS mixed in there as well.

Twin bitches? >snicker<

Well, when ya said `63 RHD, I figured you were a predecessor, I was weapons on the `Hogs.

I had orders to go back in 1990, got a humanitarian deferment, and had `em canceled when it
got BRAC'd. Got some cool aerial shots from a British bud a few years back. Sad state it is
in now, all overgrown on the flightline side.

I would have loved to seen the F-16 Aggressors there, was there during the 1st deployment of
F-16A's in `81.

But enough about the USAF, we're here to chat about VeeDubs. Hope to do some more
of that with you folks a little later today!
