Can a baja type of angled doghouse be used with the stock oil cooler? It sort of fits but seems it would seriously limit air flow to 3&4 cyl. If not whats the best cost effecient (I'm already in trouble with the boss) way to setup a remote oil cooler?
It is going in a baja, no heat boxes.
Thanks

No, that fan shroud is designed to be ran with an external oil cooler.

Contact me at 924-8591 I am currently running an external oil cooler adaptor, hoses and a brand new cooler,
I will be switching over the system but need to know how much of a hurry your in.

thanks

We need a sticky here for correct VW terminology.

Dog house is a fan shroud 1971 and newer , with the oil cooler on the outside of the shroud not inside.

FYI, those fans shrouds are junk. They limit cooling and are cheap. For budget, stock is best.

The chrome will make things hot as well.

Kylees63.....Don't worry to much about correct terminology, it does help, but we all start somewhere and never stop learning. Hell I don't know anything.... Shocked Shocked Shocked

Yeah I got the lowdown. Decided to stick with the stock "shroud", which is a doghouse type. I've heard them all called doghouses all my life, had no idea. Would still be interested in the remote stuff, wanting to try to have it together next weekend. Have lots of tradeables.

BTW I wouldn't run the J-Tubes. Run the stock htr boxes. they have the same porting, same angles, and the best part....they don't send 400+ degrees up under your cyl head like jtubes do. they look ugly, but they work better.

I think everyone should try and find an article written by berg in oct 81 HVW. Summerized, he basically points out that he's spent more money than everyone on the planet trying to design a cooling system, that cost effectively, cools better than a stock german setup (doghouse). He was able to produce a better setup, but not one that someone could afford.

We've all had to learn how hard it is to beat the germans at this stuf...hell they invented it.

BTW...don't forget to run the htr flaps in the shroud. they deflect 15% of the airtflow over the cyl heads.....

Kevin,

Won't be pulling the buggy down that fast, especially if the weather stays the way it is suppose to.. Laughing

I have a bunch of upgrades to do but I am in no hurry, the buggy is running great.... Laughing

Sorry Sad

Hey working the next few days, I'll call this weekend. I have a few performance parts that I don't think I'll use. Trade or consignment type deal perhaps? I'd like to see what you have.
Thanks, Kevin
