I'm Back from Asia , its nice here no snow and not too cold.
Today Put in my new distributer with the no points electronic thing. Works nice . But I will keep my old points distributer in the baja just incase this new one craps out.

Well with the mango tucked safely in the garage until it sells there isnt so much room to fidle with the single cab. But have found og paint doors, decklid and a crusty funky emblem for it. Other projects are getting closer to the burner.
Also might be picking up a 63 Riviera..... more to come, once its home |

Well, finally got around to putting pans in our 70' bug...what a mess. As soon as I started pulling carpet out it didn't look good. Pans were trashed, I already knew that...but the heater channels need replacing too. Soooo...I checked out our 68' bug that needs pans also. Looks like the channels are pretty good in that one. Restoration plans changed...now I'll be fixing up the 68' and not the 70! Pretty soon I'll probably have a 70' for sale that's prepped for pans!

Scott you should turn that 70 into a Baja. Take some ques from the dune buggiers and use some 1x2 square tube and diamond plating for the pans. Came close to doing that with my 66. But it's too good of a year for that.
As for me. I got some cash in. So I'll be doing pans and channels here soon. Have to find a place that has them in stock first.
But it feels like spring now. So not really a "winter" project |

Hey Jordan.....she really wants a Slammed bug for her daily driver, not much luck in convincing her! As soon as we get the title back from DMV, we're gonna put it up for sale. Might haul it down to the Bugfair this year for sale, along with alot of other parts that have found their way home with me!!
Scott
(Check with CIP, they had heater channels and pans in stock last Sat when we were price checking!!) |

Going to build a new motor for my Baja as the one in it had over a 1/8" end play.
This will be my first VW motor I ever rebuilt I have my donor motor all apart and going to have it checked out and maybe opened up to 1780cc? with a eagle 110 cam , I still want to run the signal carb a 34 somthing . and my 1/2" trimil header
I will do this in my 12X8 shop behind my house
I need to get me trans axle rebuilt too It leaking and making noise.

Hey hotel there are at least 2 buses at pick-n-pull on north market. I'm tossing around the Idea of putting a bus tranny in my bug along with gear reduction hubs. _________________ hakunamatata |

I like the idea of a bus tranny but not reduction ,
I may have to go look.

In the last couple weeks I've gotten quite a bit done.
Put the Thing drums and type 3 wheel cyl's on the back of the Micro. Also installed the hitch and light pigtail and adjusted the valves and installed a fuel cut off solonoid on it. Still need to change the oil.
Put the engine in the race car, swaped the beam, installed front and rear sway bars, front and rear shocks, longer rear press in wheel studs and set the ride height. Now needs an alignment, valve and carb check and oil change all before the 20th. _________________ TROY

Well, I have been working on two projects. I will start with the street bug first.
I am almost done with my new 2110cc street engine. It has been 6 years since I had a real engine in my street bug. If all goes well I will put it in this weekend and then get a good tune on it.
Just for a comparison, I did a dyno pull today to see how wimpy my tired stock 1600cc is. I put down a wopping 35hp and 53 ft/lbs of torque to the ground! I am sure the new engine will be a little better. _________________ Jeff Rogers

My second, but slow coming project is the continuation of trying to complete my race bug.
I should be able to get it out this season..... finally!
Here is some info on the project...

Other than tuning the engine a bit more and hooking the nitrous back up, I need to finish building the new transaxle and updating my safety gear. Then I should be ready to lay down some runs.

Just found this thread. Over the winter I have been working on rust repair on my 65 beetle. I pulled the body off the chassis and repaired/replaced both pan halves. The front 3/4 of each side was replaced with OG metal from a donor car. The battery tray was repaired with new aftermarket metal. The aftermarket stuff really sucks, bad. I would have been better of making one from scratch.
Yesterday I finished de-greasing the tranny, and will replace all the seals and gaskets to make it leak free. Then maybe a round of black paint to freshen things up.
Next I will finish welding the pan and hit it with Ospho and some paint, and seam sealer. Then on to rust repair on the body. Heater channels are OK, but there are various rust holes in several places. I have the bottom six inches of another bug to provide donor metal. Cut, weld, grind.
This is my first foray into rust repair and welding at this level. I am learning a lot, and I have new respect for those who do this type of thing everyday. Since I am not doing this for a living, I can swear and smash things with a hammer when I get frustrated, then walk away and go have a beer and watch a hockey game. It'll still be there tomorrow, and the only customer to complain is me. |
