Does that mean winter is over already? Dammit, I got nothing done, again.

I wish, cold and getting colder. I had a friend show up at 11am, with a 40 of PBR, I'm thinking the weather has depressed him a little....

Well, I picked up another winter project. A 70 bus that will become the family camper. It's a driver that has sat for about a year so it will need a little love, but it was a fair price and it's pretty solid and original paint. I will likely have a complete stock interior for sale this winter or spring if anyone needs one. Middle seat is very nice, rear seat is nice but not the correct two tone brown color.

This bus will get a Riviera pop top and a home built interior to fit the needs of the family. I've never been much for any of the production camper setups. Too much stuff that I don't need. I'm going for custom, lightweight, and simple. Maybe I should start with a trip to IKEA.

I would be intererested in the middle and rear seats when you are ready to sell.

Just replaced my stock generator with a type 1 55 amp alternator and now I have plenty of power to run everything. All my lights are brighter now, amazing!
Troy helped me out big time!
Needed more power to run the new H-4 head lights and 35 watt driving lights I installed right before the Pumpkin Run.

I would probably want to sell it as a complete set, but that's a ways off. I'll keep you in mind.

What kind of mods were required to the engine to fit this? Sheet metal trimming? Anything else? I have seen the other style where you use an alternator from some modern import car, but they don't tell you what it is so you are screwed when it comes time to repair/replace.

Only modification was using a belt sander and sanding the housing down to fit in to the tin compartment. Didn't cut any tin.
On the other different alternators that you can use for a squareback are a RX-7 and a Metro alternators. Samba VW has a pretty good forum section on conversions.

Another night spent at the brown durby somehow hampers my ability to work in the garage?

I've got the pedal situation figured out, and the ignition circuit that didn't like to shut off with the key. Next is rear tire swap, rear bumper bracket fix (thanks scott!), shocks, wiring and running boards.

I've gone over the front brakes of the '70 bus, and replaced a bearing seal. It will need ball joint boots in the near future. I've moved onto the rear brakes, and will adjust the torsion bars to cure the saggy butt bay bus syndrome. Gonna need new CV boots on one side, too. Then it will be engine R&R time to seal up some nasty leaks, and add a thermostat and flappers back to the doghouse cooling system.

Lots of work ahead, but it keeps my hands busy.
