I know somebody who went to Lemons, Car and Driver did a story about it this issue. It would be really cool to go do this Bonneville thing, how many people do you know that can say "I raced at Bonneville"
You noticed the catch all class that modern cars could be in?

I am just starting to thoroughly read the rules, it looks like I was wrong. Any body, but it has to be 36 horse based. That sucks. I do have a complete machine shop at work, so I guess I could build a 2200 cc 36 horse!

without moving the cylinder studs?

Between the "no moving studs" and the 36hp heads rule, it would make it a challenge, which is the point I guess.

Jim agreed to help with this endeavor, so we are off to break the worlds record!
Here's some things I think we need.
Early front fenders , with the headlights, and the real early turn signals.
Maybe a late curved window super beetle, I would just as soon use my current car, but the curved window has to be better aero, and there would be advantages to leaving my car alone.
165-15 H rated tires with as slick a tread pattern as possible. Not worn out, I mean designed that way.
Troy has a 36 hp engine for us, but we may need other 36 parts as we get into it.

I have an Early Right fender. I also have some wide 5 to chevy wheel adapters and some rims to go with them (just a thought).

I might have an in with someone at Les Schwab that would be sensitive to our cause, I'll persue that this week.

I didn't see anything in the rules that would prohibit flush mounted turn signals, or a shaved decklid. Wink

Edit: I missed this:

All metal body panels and fenders including all lights and VW bumpers must be mounted in the stock manner and fully functional.

Ok, so a 73 and newer Super body would work (Curved windscreen), but that means that the front apron won't fit/mount up to early fenders....hmm, what to do.

Anyone have ideas?

I think you can mix and match years OK. We could make it fit! I have been researching mixing/matching 36 hp parts, it looks easier than I thought it would be. Right now, the biggest problem I see is how to get late lifters in a 36 hp. I don't know if you could bore out the hole in the case that much, and it would be pretty hard to turn down a lifter. Joe has a carb for us.

Cars without titles are way too much stress unless I know I'm gonna cut them up. It's nice knowing that using my car, we only have to work on the engine.

So things are coming together for this project. I got 2 engines from Troy and between them have pretty much all I need. I could really use a better set of cylinders, so anybody who has a line on 36 hp cylinders let me know. I also need to come up with a radiator fill tank, an electric pump that can pump coolant, a deck lid so I don't have to cut holes in mine, a window washer tank and pump, and some of those salt discs for my wheels.
Any help is appreciated.

So, the car is running but not driving, very close, Saturday I should be driving it around. What a lot of work. There is going to be a TV show about us, I have to call the producers and talk to them, that's pretty wild, huh?
