i have a westfalia bus that i resurrected , turning it into trike, and have loads of small parts. swap or whatever, vin 2312037371 have list and pics....

ps the top is still solid, front doors are rusty on bottom but glass and wing windows are good...

on east coast but hate to see this stuff die, free just come and get it...

I would recommend buying a bud that is running. It will take up a lot of your time maintaining the car. Buy the Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia Official Service Manual Type 1, and Haynes Repair Manual for the year you purchase. Also, I would recommend attending the Volkswagen meeting at the Valley library the first Wednesday of each month.

Hello I'm Allison

I found my first VW Beetle just about 5 years ago... a 2003 lemon. But I still love it. I'm now looking to buy my first older bug - I want a project car. My plan is to restore it, myself. Yes I said that, myself. Nope, haven't got a clue about cars... I will learn as I go, yes, I hope. This is a project that I'm not in a big hurry to finish, though I'd like to get started soon.

I live in Spok, go to school at EWU, play ice hockey (goalie), have a horse and goat and a hairless dog... oh, and I ride a 2008 Vespa LX 150 ... this is me in a 'nut' shell

Amen. I got what I thought was a good deal on my bus at $1200 at the time (it was running, sorta) and I'm still tallying up what I put into it to make it safe and mechanically sound. Not talking body stuff either. It's easy to fall in love with a VW, but be prepared. You've found the forum though.

I just sold a running/ driving 62' deluxe to a fellow member for that price....was it a deal? Yes...in this economy, everything should be a deal!! Unless it's a SUPER STRAIGHT car...and won't take it much to get running, $1500 isn't bad. But factor in that you'll need to go through the entire brake system, and unless you do the work...that can get spendy really quick for a thorough job (metal lines and rubber lines). Post some pics up to get a better estimation in the "car pics" section.

that seems a bit high for a non running bug unless it has lots of new parts or something else making it special I paid that for a running 71 granted it was leaking oil from the oil cooler seals and the brakes need work

10W40 in the summer if my engine is nice and tight. I might jump to 20W50 if I have oil pressure issues at high temps on an older engine. Make sure that you use either a racing grade oil with ZDDP or a ZDDP additive. Most modern oils no longer contain enough Zinc to protect engines with solid lifters, such as our air cooled VW's.

I use Rislone additive. So far, so good.

What type of oil do you guys typically run in your air cooled VWs on this side of the state? We used to run SAE 30 on the west side but it didn't get that warm over there. When my car gets too warm the oil light starts to come on at idle.

Oh yeah I had to take it fairly slow though I'm not to used to that fast of a motor or trans. But yeah got home just fine. Can't wait to start paint striping it!
